Rahim

Rahim

After  Kabir,  Rahim cannot be left un- introduced. Like Kabir, Rahim’s poems (Dohas) are equally enchanting.  Kabir and Rahim were more or less, contemporaries. A great pleasure Listening to him.   …First his Dohas
….

रहिमन देख बड़ेन को, लघु दीजिये डारि।
जहाँ काम आवै सुई, कहा करै तलवारि॥

Rahim says, you should not forget small things/ poor friends just because you now have access to big / rich, important people. For example, you cannot use a sword where you need a needle even though sword is much bigger than needle.

बानी ऐसी बोलिये, मन का आपा खोय।
औरन को सीतल करै, आपहु सीतल होय॥

Your speech should be such that it should please everyone. Others should feel happy listening to you and you yourself should also feel happy and content.

रहिमन धागा प्रेम का, मत तोड़ो चटकाय।
टूटे से फिर ना जुड़े, जुड़े गाँठ परि जाय॥

Rahim says, don't allow the delicate thread of love between people to snap. If it breaks once, it cannot be mended, even if you mend it there will be a knot in it, which means there will always be some awkwardness in the relationship.

A brief about Rahim ……

( His full name is Rahim Khan Khana. His songs are of the same height and same depth as Kabir, Meera, Sahajo or Chaitanya. Why did he write in Hindi? Being a Mohammedan he could have written in Urdu, and Urdu is a far more beautiful language than Hindi. But he chose knowingly; he wanted to fight the Mohammedan orthodoxy. – OSHO)

Shah Wali Allah (Rahim) (1703-62)

Shah Wali Allah of Delhi, the greatest Muslim scholar of eighteenth-century India, made an immense contribution to the intellectual, economic, social, political and religious life of the Muslim community in India, the effects of which persist to the present day.
Shah Wali Allah (Kabir), was born near Delhi, a member of a distinguished intellectual and religious family. He was renowned composer during the time of Mughal emperor Akbar. He was one of the main nine ministers (Dewan) in his court, also known as the Navaratnas. Rahim is famous for his Hindi couplets and his books on Astrology. The village of Khankhana, is named after him, which is located in the Nawanshahr district of the state of Punjab, India.
Although a Muslim by birth, Rahim was a devotee of Lord Krishna and wrote poetry dedicated to him. He was also an avid Astrolger, and the writer of two important works in Astrology Khet Kautukam and Dwawishd Yogavali are still popular.

Mulla Nasrudin rushed into a barber shop.

"Cut everything short," he said, "hair, whiskers, and conversation.

"Mulla Nasrudin and his two friends were considering the problem of what each would do if the doctor told him he had only six months to live.

Said Robinson: "The first thing I would do would be to liquidate my business, withdrawmy savings and have the biggest fling on the French Riviera you ever saw. I'd play roulette, I'd eat like a king, and most of all, I'd have girls, girls and more girls."

Said Sheikh Abdulla: "The first thing I would do would be to visit a travel agency and plot out an itinerary. There are a thousand places on earthy I have not seen, and I wouldlike to see them before I die: the Grand Canyon, the Taj Mahal, Angkor Wat, all of  them.

Mrs. Mulla Nasrudin was reading about birth and death statistics.Suddenly she turned to the Mulla and said: "Do you know that every time I breathe a man dies?"

"Very interesting," returned Mulla Nasrudin. "have you tried toothpaste?")
